Story Behind Vamana Jayanti Celebration
According to Hindu texts, the one who performs the 100 Yagans will get the highest power to rule the Earth and Heaven. Raja Bali who was one of the greatest bhakt of Bhagwan Vishnu, was considered one of the biggest adversaries of the Gods. He started preparations to perform 100 yajnas. Bhagwan Indra was scared of him so he approached Bhagwan Narayan to get this help, to prevent Raja Bali from completing the Yajana.
To help him and other gods, Bhagwan Vishnu took the form of Vamana – his 5th incarnation, a dwarf Brahman and visited Raja Bali. The latter treated him well and said that he would grant him whatever he wanted. For Bhiksha, Bhagwan Vishnu in Vamana avatar, asked for 3 pieces of land that he can measure in 3 steps. King Bali agreed to this. Now, the Vamana grew huge and took a very gigantic form. With his first feet, he covered the entire Earth. With his 2nd step, he covered all the heavenly places. Now, there was no place left for Bhagwan Vishnu to place his 3re step. Now, Raja Bali realised that the Vamana was none other than Bhagwan Vishnu himself, so he offered him his own head and he was sent to Patal lok.
