Papmochani Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Once, there was a rishi named Medhavi who deeply worshipped God Shiva. He lived in the Chitraratha forest, practicing strict meditation. The forest was visited by Bhagwan Indra and many beautiful apsaras.
Bhagwan Indra thought Medhavi’s penance might elevate him to heaven, so he tried to distract him. Despite many attempts by Indra and an apsara named Manjughosha, Medhavi remained focused.
Manjughosha then set up her hermitage nearby and sang melodiously to catch Medhavi’s attention. Bhagwan Kamdev, impressed by her singing, used his magical bow to make Medhavi fall in love with her.
Medhavi forgot his devotion and purity and lost love with Manjughosha. But when she wanted to leave, Medhavi realised he had been deceived and cursed her to become an ugly witch.
Seeking redemption, Medhavi went to his father Rishi Chyavana’s ashram. His father advised him to observe Papamochani Ekadashi to cleanse his sins. Both Medhavi and Manjughosha observed the fast and were forgiven for their wrongdoing.
