Maa Chandraghanta is the 3rd form of Devi Durga and is worshipped on the 3rd day of Sharadiya Navratri. Devi Chandraghanta is known for bringing justice and discipline to the world. She has a golden body and rides on a lion, symbolising righteousness. With ten hands and three eyes, eight of her hands hold weapons, while the other two grant boons and protect from danger. Story Behind Maa Chandraghanta
Goddess Parvati, daughter of King Himavan, desired to marry Lord Shiva, who was deeply absorbed in meditation and uninterested in worldly matters. To win his heart, Parvati left her royal life and went to the forest. There, she performed intense penance and lived a simple life.
Years of devotion moved Lord Shiva, and he decided to marry her. Their union symbolises the balance of feminine and masculine energies in Hinduism. On their wedding day, Lord Shiva lovingly adorned Parvati’s forehead with a crescent moon-shaped sandalwood ornament, giving her the name “Chandraghanta,” signifying her beauty and grace.
Maa Chandraghanta Poojan Vidhi
The third night of Navratri begins with the worship of Chandraghanta which is performed by using sacred puja. The devotee uses a shallow pan-like utensil made of clay as a base. Three layers of mud and Sapta Dhanya/Navadhanya (grains) seeds are poured into the pan. The next is a little water is sprinkled so that the seeds get enough moisture.
A Kalasha (holy water pot) filled with Ganga jal, Supari, a few coins, Akshat (raw rice mixed with turmeric powder), and Durva grass is placed in the base. Then the five Mango tree leaves are put around the neck of the Kalash which is then covered by a coconut.

On the 3rd day of the Navratra Puja, devotees offer dudh ka bhog (milk bhog) to Maa Chandraghanta as it is her favourite, and in fruits, she is offered banana.
