Observed every year from the Chaturthi tithi to Saptami tithi of Shukla Paksha Kartik maas (4th to 7th day of the bright moon phase of the months of October and November). It is one of the grandest festivals and is majorly celebrated in the Bihar and Uttar Pradesh regions of the country. Chhath Puja has special religious significance. Every year, Chhath Puja is performed 6 days after Diwali. According to the Panchang, this year the Shashthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month will start at 12.41 am on 7th November and will end at 12.34 am on 8th November. In such a situation, evening Arghya will be offered on Thursday, 7th November and morning Arghya is to be offered the next day, 8th November.
Nahay Khay Date
This year Nahay-Khay will be held on Tuesday, 5th November. According to the Panchang, Nahay Khay is performed on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Women observing fast on this day worship Surya Dev after bathing and meditating in Ganga or any other holy river.
Kharna Date
Kharna is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. On the day of Kharna, women keep a waterless fast and remain engrossed in the worship of Chhathi Maiya. This year Kharna is on 6th November, Wednesday.
Offering Arghya to the Setting and the Rising Sun
7th November is the third day of Chhath Puja, in which Arghya will be offered to the setting sun. On the next day, early morning, Arghya is to be offered to the rising sun, which is on 8th November, Friday. With this Arghya to the rising sun, Chhath Puja will end.
