The story goes that during Samudra Manthan (the churning of the ocean), there was competition among the devatas and asuras to obtain nectar for immortality from the ocean. Asuras were of a destructive mind, so devatas were scared that asuras would take away nectar, drink and become immortal, which could be bad for the universe. Therefore, at the request of all the devatas, on this day, Bhagwan Vishnu took the form of Mohini to trap the demons in his web of illusion and gave all the nectar to the devatas to drink. With this, all the devatas attained immortality. This is the reason why this ekadashi is called Mohini ekadashi.Ekad
