Feeling sorry, Subramanyeswar decided to do penance as a snake for many years to make up for his behaviour. The place where he did this penance later became known as Mopidevi. Subramanyeswar Swamy is the main god there, and he’s also called the God of Snakes.
Also, as per Sthala Puranas, there was a skilled pot maker – Veeravarapu Parvathalu. He was a devout follower of Lord Subramanyeswar Swamy. One day, he had an extraordinary dream. In this dream, the Lord revealed the presence of a hidden Lingam within an anthill in their village. Filled with awe and reverence, Parvathalu shared this divine message with the villagers.
In a collective effort, they embarked on an excavation and were astonished to unearth the sacred Lingam exactly as foretold. In deep devotion, Parvathalu decided to honour Lord Subramanyeswar Swamy and his companions, Nandi, Garuda and the Cock. He meticulously crafted clay idols of these deities and fired them in a furnace to ensure durability and precision.
These crafted idols were reverently placed in the temple alongside the discovered Lingam, marking a significant moment in the temple’s history.
