Kitchen Vastu Guidelines and Vastu Remedies

No matter how much you invest in the construction of your home and its decor and finishing, you will not be able to make optimal use of all of its benefits if it is not built as per Vastu principles. Whether it is your bedroom, bathroom or kitchen, every corner of your home must be Vastu compliant for optimal Vastu benefit.
Here, we will discuss all the important aspects of Kitchen Vastu. Let us first understand the importance of the kitchen area.
Significance of the Kitchen Area in Vastu Shastra
Every single area and corner of a house represents something important. As per the Vastu Shastra, the kitchen is the second most sacred part of the home, after the puja room. It is the place where we prepare our food so we need the blessings of Maa Annapurna to keep our kitchen full all the time. Moreover, food is not just for satisfying our hunger; it is also essential for our body’s necessary nourishment, energy and strength for good health, which can further prepare us to carry out our daily tasks.
Also, the kitchen represents the fire element, as per Vastu and fire is one of the five vital elements of this universe known as Panchatatva (the rest are air, water, earth and space).
Therefore, the placement of the kitchen is of paramount importance. You will need to place your kitchen in the right place to obtain the benefits of fire and create a perfect balance of positive energy, or else it may bring negative energy. This results in keeping you and your family in good health and eliminating negative energies or evil forces that may cause bad health conditions. It also minimises the risk of fire hazards in the home.
On the contrary, a kitchen without Vastu principles in place may bring financial burdens, legal issues, family disputes, etc. So, if you are planning to buy or build a house, you must sincerely consider vast guidelines for your kitchen and home for a harmonious atmosphere in your house.
What Do You Need to Consider for a Kitchen Vastu?
Just like home Vastu, kitchen Vastu too comprises the right placement of various units, kitchen appliances, water inflow and outflow, space utilisation and furnishing. However, before all this, the primary concern should be the right placement of the kitchen in the home. And then, the right placement of the storage, wash basin, oven, cylinder, other appliances, refrigerator, windows and so on. It also includes the wall colours for the interiors of the space. So, the main aim is to create a perfect synergy between the kitchen and cosmic forces.
Guidelines for Kitchen Vastu
Here is what you need to follow to make your kitchen space Vastu complaint.
-
Location of Kitchen
According to Vastu Shastra, the southeast direction is the zone of the fire element, known as Agnikon. Therefore, the southeast is the best direction for your kitchen in your house. If the southeast is not available for any reason, you can consider the northwest. But do not place your kitchen in the north, north-east or south-west.
If the wrong direction is chosen for the kitchen, it may cause problems in the family and create disputes among family members.
Also, keep in mind that the bathroom and kitchen should never be adjacent to one another. It is considered a Vastu defect
-
Placement of Oven and Cylinder
As per Vastu, all cooking appliances are seen as fire elements, whether it be an oven, induction, microwave oven, etc. So, the guidelines are the same for all of them.
The gas cylinder and oven must be kept in the southeast zone of the kitchen. Place these in such a manner that you face the east while cooking.
-
Electrical Kitchen Appliances
Kitchen appliances are very common in every household these days. Kitchens are loaded with all types of electric appliances for different uses.
There, the placement of electrical appliances is equally important. Gadgets like a toaster, coffee machine, rice cooker, mixer-grinder, etc. should be placed in the southeast corner.
Do not keep them in the northeast corner, as there will be a high chances of malfunctioning of these appliances. Place your fridge in the south-west zone. This will eliminate obstructions from your life. However, you can place it in other corners as well, except in the northeast.
-
Water Supply Connection
So, where to place your sink in the kitchen as per Vastu? The sink is a water element in the area, so do not place it close to any fire element or fire zone (agni kon). It is important to keep in mind that they do not interact with any fire element appliances or gadgets, oven, stove, etc. Also, they should be placed parallel to one another, or else it will invite domestic conflict and cause fights between spouses.
The north side of the northeast corner of the kitchen is the ideal location for your sink. In case your kitchen is too small and your sink and stove/oven are placed close to each other, keep a china vase between them. If you have water storage like jars and bottles, water filters or water purifiers, place them in the northeast zone.
Your kitchen drains and water pipes must also be laid as per Vastu rules.
-
Waste Matters and Waste Bins
Keep your kitchen dustbin under the kitchen sink to keep it away from public view. It will minimise the spread of negative energy. Discard your garbage and anything that is of no use regularly and keep your dustbin clean and empty it daily.
-
Storage Cabinets and Containers
Cabinets are used in the kitchen to store various things for kitchen and cooking use. Place your cabinet in the southwest zone of the kitchen. This brings prosperity and good luck into the house. If you don’t have cabinets, then keep your containers on this side of your kitchen.
-
Placement of Utensils
Vastu Shastra suggests keeping the kitchen free of clutter. So, it is essential to keep your utensils in order and neat manner. You can keep them either in a cabinet or utensil basket. Place the basket and utensil cabinet on either the south or west sides of the kitchen.
Also, make sure that you are not keeping broken items in your kitchen or home. No broken glass or crockery items should be inside your house. If you have any, discard them as soon as possible as they spread negative energy in the home.
-
Windows and Exhaust Fan
You must have a window and exhaust fan in your kitchen. It helps in channelling out the negative energy and removing toxic gases produced in the kitchen. You also get natural daylight through the windows in your kitchen. Ensure your windows are open when you cook. You can keep them open at other times too.
Vastu experts advise you to place your kitchen windows or exhaust fans on the eastern side of the kitchen. Also, your electric chimney should be in the southern zone.
