What is the Story Behind the Karwa Chauth
Once, there was a queen named Veervati. She was the only sister to seven loving brothers. After her marriage, when she was observing her first Karwa Chauth, she was desperately waiting for the Moon to rise. It troubled her brothers. So, they created a moon-like image with the help of fire, through Peepal tree leaves and asked her to break her fast.
Veervati asked her sisters-in-law to break their fast as well. However, they didn’t and informed her that she was getting deceived by her brothers and that the Moon hadn’t risen yet. She didn’t believe them and broke the fast. As soon as she had her food, she received a few bad omens.
As soon as she took the first bite, she got the news that her husband had died. On seeing the dead body of her husband, she felt guilt and started cursing herself.
On seeing this, Devi Indrani, the wife of Bhagwan Indra came to console her. Veervati pleaded her to bring her husband back. The latter informed her that as she had broken the fast without seeing the Moon, her husband died.
Devi Indrani advised her to observe the Chauth fast throughout the year to get her husband back. Veervati did as advised. After accumulating “punya karma” by observing the fast, she got her husband back.
Karva Chauth is the most important Vrat for married women, thus, it is important to do it correctly. To get a detailed explanation regarding the Puja Vidhi, you can speak to pundits and astrologers at NamoAstro.
