Ganesh Chaturthi: Chant These Mantras in Ganesh Puja

“The seer among the seers, abounding beyond measure in food presiding among the elders and being the lord of an invocation”
Sholka 2.23.1, Rig Veda (on Lord Ganesha)
Ganesh, one of the most beloved gods, is the son of Maa Parvati and Bhagwan Shiva. He is the deity of beginnings – before initiating any work it is considered most auspicious to worship him, wisdom or buddhi, spirituality (siddhi) and riddhi (prosperity) often known as Sidhi Vinayak. It is said that Ganesh ji himself is the manifestation of Buddhi, while Siddhi and Riddhi are goddesses and his consorts.
One of the most auspicious days to please the Ganesh ji and seek his blessing by chanting mantras is Ganesh Chaturthi.
About Ganesh Chaturthi
It is one of the most important days in Hinduism, as on this day Ganesh Ji was born. Devotees install the idol of Ganesh at their homes, and even at public places by creating pandals. They daily perform aarti, and distribute prasad of modak and ladoo – the favourite food of Ganapati Bappa, whom people call lovingly. People perform puja, sing bhajans, organise religious gatherings and also chant mantras to celebrate the occasion.
Chanting of the following mantra should be done at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi
Chanting these mantras should be done with a clean body and soul, so start by taking a bath first, and then wear clean clothes. Open up your mind, make it devoid of all thoughts, and worries and let the energy which is created during the recitation of these, sink in. Allow it to take control of your body and soul.
Vakratunda Mantra:
“वक्रतुंड महा-काय सूर्य-कोटि संप्रभा
निर्विघनं कुरु मे देवा सर्व-कार्येषु सर्वदा |
((“O Lord with a curved trunk and immense body, whose brilliance is equal to that of a billion suns, I pray to you to remove the obstacles from all my endeavors, always.”))
This is the primary mantra while summoning Ganesha ji into your place. It is the perfect mantra to be chanted at the time of the beginning of some new endeavour. It is the most effective and helpful in getting rid of your obstacles and problems. Also, regular chanting can open doors of opportunities for you that were otherwise closed.
You should chant it 108 times in the morning, facing the north, east direction or the idol of Ganesh Bhagwan.
Ganesha Gayatri Mantra:
(“We meditate upon the one with a single tusk, We contemplate upon the one with a curved trunk, May the one with a tusk inspire and guide us.”)
On reciting it with pure intentions, hindrances and obstacles in one’s life are removed and one experiences progress in life. It is also believed to enhance one’s intelligence and the memory of the devotee. By chanting this mantra, the natural or even supernatural fear of the devotee goes away, and he is filled with a sense of calmness.
Beej Mantra:
“ॐ गम गणपतये नमः”
It literally means to bow down to the Lord, with all of our existence.
The beej mantra or the Ganesha mool mantra is given in Ganpati Upanishad. It is most suitable for yoga sadhana as chanting of this mantra keeps the mind of the devotee calm. The best time for chanting is morning or before starting the pooja itself.
The chanting should be done 108 times, every day, especially on Ganesh Chaturthi and Yajnas.
This mantra is extremely suitable for Ganesha Chaturthi. Chanting this mantra while thinking of a group of people in your mind will actually help in the healing of the group. Lord is the leader (adhyaksha) of the group (gana)
Siddhivinayak Mantra:
“ओम नमो सिद्धि विनायकाय सर्व कार्य करत्रेय सर्व विघ्न प्रशमनाय सर्वजय वश्यकर्णाय सर्वजन सर्वस्त्री पुरुष आकर्षणाय श्रींग ओम स्वाहा।”
Mantras invoking him are known as Siddhi mantras (since he is the God of wisdom). This mantra gives one a feeling of calmness and tranquillity and removes negative energy from the life of devotees.
Sidhi, is Ganesh’s consort and a Goddess, so chanting this mantra can help one in achieving his desires.
Rinn Harta Mantra:
Bhagwan Ganesha is also known as “Rinn Harta”. He is also the God of wealth and is very generous, so worshipping him can make one successful. Especially during time of financial distress, when one is having difficulties meeting the ends, regular chanting can help him out and makes one debt-free.
The ideal time to chant this mantra is in the morning after taking a bath. The recitation should be done facing the west direction or the idol of Ganesha.
Mantras serve as bridges between the physical and spiritual realms, enabling us to transcend the ordinary and experience the extraordinary. What better occasion to do that than the day of the God of wisdom?
