Deepawali is a Sanatan Hindu festival popularly known as the festival of lights because on this day people light diyas and lamps everywhere as a celebration of good over evil. It is believed that when Bhagwan Ram along with Mata Sita and his brother Lakshman returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan it was on this day. It was Amavasya day (new moon day) and to remove the darkness the people of Ayodhya lit diyas all over in joy to celebrate the occasion. Henceforth, every year, Sanatan Hindus light diyas and celebrate the festival with much enthusiasm.
It is also believed, that during this time on the day of Dhanteras just two days before Deepwawali, Maa Lakshmi, Kuber and Dhanvatari emerged from the ocean after Samudra Manthan. So, people also worship these deities for wealth, prosperity, good fortune and health during Deepawali. The festival starts on Dhanteras Day and continues for five days.
There is also a tradition of worshipping Bhagwan Ganesha, Maa Sharda (Saraswati), Maa Kali and Shri Krishna during Deepawali. It is one of the major Sanatan Hindu festivals and is celebrated in every corner of the country by Hindus, though each region has their own rituals. Diwali Puja Samagri
One important thing at the time of puja is to prepare a list of necessary puja materials in advance so that everything is clear at the time of puja and the puja is completed with full rituals.
On the day of Diwali puja, the worship of Mata Lakshmi and Bhagwan Ganesh has the most importance. It is believed that if you worship and perform the Aarti of Goddess Lakshmi with a true heart and rituals, Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom, will always be happy with you. That is, due to their grace, your entire year will be good and you will be blessed by both the deities.
The night of Diwali is considered to be the night of Sarvartha Siddhi, hence Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga also happens in it. In such a situation, worshipping with rituals at an auspicious time brings happiness in life. For this, it is most important that you have all the material for worship.
Here is the list of Diwali Puja Samagri:
- Wooden stool (लकड़ी की चौकी)
- Red or yellow cloth to cover the stool (चौकी को ढकने के लिए लाल या पीला वस्त्र)
- Lakshmi Ganesh idol or picture for worship (देवी लक्ष्मी और भगवान गणेश की मूर्तियां/चित्र)
- Urn (कलश)
- Mango leaves,, camphor, Kalava for puja (पूजा के लिए आम के पत्ते, कपूर, कलावा)
- Kumkum, Chandan, Haldi, Roli, Akshat (कुमकुम, चंदन, हल्दी, रोली, अक्षत)
- Betel and betel nut (पान और सुपारी)
- Whole coconut with husk (साबुत नारियल अपनी भूसी के साथ)
- Incense sticks and incense sticks (अगरबत्ती और धूप बत्ती)
- Ghee for lamp (दीपक के लिए घी)
- Brass lamp or clay lamp (पीतल का दीपक या मिट्टी का दीपक)
- Cotton wick (कपास की बत्ती)

Deepawali Lakshmi Ganesh Puja Vidhi
This festival of Diwali is mainly associated with the worship of Shri Ganesha and Maa Lakshmi and that is why it is considered special and whatever rituals you follow on this day, it will open the way for prosperity in your life and all your wishes will be fulfilled. .
- To start the puja rituals, first of all clean the place of worship and spread a red or yellow cloth on a platform.
- After Diwali cleaning, clean every corner of the house and sprinkle Ganga water.
- Place the chowki (wooden platform) first and spread a red cotton cloth on a wooden platform and place a handful of grains in the middle.
- Place the urn (Kalash) in the middle of the grain.
- Fill the Kalash with water and add a betel nut, marigold flower, a coin and some rice grains.
- Place 5 mango leaves in a circular shape on the Kalash.
- Place the idol of Goddess Lakshmi in the middle and the idol of Lord Ganesha on the right side of the Kalash.
- Lord Kuber and Mother Saraswati should also be placed along with them.
- Make a small mountain of rice grains in a small plate, make a lotus flower with turmeric, add some coins and place it in front of the idols.
- After this, keep your business/account books and other money/business related items in front of the idol.
- Sprinkle Ganga water at the place of worship and also pour some Ganga water on the chowki.
- Offer prayer to Lord Ganesha with red or yellow flowers in your hand and chant his Beej Mantra – ऊँ गं गणपतये नम:।
- Bhagwan Ganesh is always worshipped first in all pujas as per Sanatan Hindu rituals. So worship him first to start the puja. Now chant Ganapati mantra: ‘गजाननम् भूत भू गणादि सेवितं कपित्थ जम्बू फलचारुभक्षणम्। उमासुतं सु शोक विनाशकारकं नमामि विघ्नेश्वरपाद पंकजम्।
- Now apply tilak to Goddess Lakshmi and Bhagwan Ganesha and light the lamp. Along with this, apply Tilak on the Kalash also. Offer Durba and Modak to Ganesh Bhagwan.
- After this, keep some flowers in your palm for worship. Now offer flowers to Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi.
- Close your eyes and recite the Diwali puja mantra.
- Offer the flower kept in the palm to Lord Ganesha and Maa Lakshmi.
- Apply red vermilion (Sindoor) to Goddess Lakshmi and recite the Shri Sukta Mantra of Goddess Lakshmi.
- After worship, perform aarti of Maa Lakshmi and Ganesh ji and offer Bhog
- Offer coconut, betel nut and betel leaf to the Mother Goddess. Offer turmeric, kumkum and rice to the idol. Put the garlands around the idols and light incense sticks.
- Place some flowers and coins in front of the idol of the goddess.
- Along with them, you should worship Dhan Kuber and Maa Saraswati.
- After worshipping Lakshmi and Ganesh ji as per the rituals, Maa Kali is also worshipped at night.
- Distribute the Aarti offerings among the family members.
- Light lamps after worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Ganesh. First of all, light 5 or 7 ghee lamps in front of Goddess Lakshmi.

Why Worship Bhagwan Ganesh on Diwali?
Ganapati has the blessing of being the first to be worshipped and he is worshipped as the god of wisdom. As per scriptures, among Hindus, any worship is considered complete only when Ganapati is worshipped first. दन्ताघातविदारितारिरुधिरैः सिन्दूरशोभाकरंवन्दे शैलसुतासुतं गणपतिं सिद्धिप्रदं कामदम् ॥

भावार्थ
जो नाटे और मोटे शरीरवाले हैं, जिनका गजराजके समान मुख और लम्बा उदर है, जो सुन्दर हैं तथा बहते हुए मदकी सुगन्धके लोभी भौंरोके चाटने से जिनका गण्डस्थल चपल हो रहा है, दाँतोंकी चोट से विदीर्ण हुए शत्रुओंके खूनसे जो सिन्दूरकी-सी शोभा धारण करते हैं, कामनाओंके दाता और सिद्धि देनेवाले उन पार्वतीके पुत्र गणेशजीकी मैं वन्दना करता हूँ |
Why Worship Maa Lakshmi in Diwali?

भावार्थ
जय हो महालक्ष्मी माता जो कि श्रीं ह्रीं श्रीं जैसे बीज मंत्रों से सहित हैं, जो कमल पर विराजमान हैं, जिनके स्मरण से समस्त प्रकार के प्रसाद अर्थात आशीर्वाद की प्राप्ति हो जाती है।

Deepawali Mata Lakshmi and Ganesh Ji Puja Aarti
Take a lamp in a plate, ring the puja bell and perform the aarti of Goddess Lakshmi. After completion of puja, prepare the Aarti thali and offer water, offer turmeric, sandalwood, vermillion and leave flowers and then pray with the Aarti in hand.
