This verse from Shiva Purana conveys both reverence and power associated with Rudraksha beads.
Rudraksha is derived from the Sanskrit word “rudra” which is another name for Shiva Bhagwan and Aksha meaning tears. It is said that the Rudraksha tree originated from the tears shed by Lord Shiva.
Rudraksha has great spiritual significance. Besides, wearing them enhances concentration and provides clarity of mind along with protection from negative influences.
Rudraksha types:
Rudraksha beads can be broadly divided into various major categories based on the number of Mukhis (faces) they feature. Here are the main types of Rudraksha beads:
- One Mukhi Rudraksha: A single-faced Rudraksha bead associated with Lord Shiva that symbolises unity, enlightenment, and spiritual growth is considered rare and powerful.
- Two Mukhi Rudraksha: This type of Rudraksha features two faces (Mukhis) on one bead, symbolising Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s union and is believed to help promote harmony, balance and emotional well-being.
- Three Mukhi Rudraksha: This Rudraksha bead with three faces is associated with Lord Agni, the fire god. It is said to foster confidence, self-expression and communication skills while strengthening confidence levels.
- Four Mukhi Rudraksha: This type of Rudraksha with four faces (Mukhis) is believed to represent Lord Brahma as its creator and can help promote intellect, knowledge, and logical thought processes.
- Five Mukhi Rudraksha: This type is widely popular and easily available, symbolising auspiciousness, peace, and spiritual growth.
- Six Mukhi Rudraksha: This Rudraksha bead with six faces is said to represent Lord Kartikeya, the warrior god. It may help strengthen willpower, courage and stability.
- Seven Mukhi Rudraksha: The seven Mukhi Rudraksha are believed to bring prosperity, good luck, and financial security. It is often associated with Mahalakshmi – the goddess of wealth and abundance. It may bring you wealth.
- Eight Mukhi Rudraksha: This Rudraksha with eight faces (Mukhis) is said to bring success, wisdom and blessings from Lord Ganesha as it represents him as the remover of obstacles.
