Maa Siddhidatri: Navratri Ninth Day Goddess

On the 9th day of Navratri, Maa Siddhidatri is worshipped. The name “Siddhidatri” is formed by combining two Sanskrit words: “Siddhi,” signifying perfection, and “datri,” meaning the bestower. Siddhidatri is the Goddess who bestows perfection in all endeavours to her devotees.
She is seen sitting on a fully blossomed lotus flower while wearing a red saree. She has four hands and is holding weapons. In her left upper hand, she is holding a conch shell. She is holding a lotus in her left lower hand and a mace in her right. Wearing jewelry and a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers around her neck, Siddhidatri Devi is incredibly exquisite and wonderful in this form.

Story Behind Siddhidatri Devi
In ancient times, the universe was a dark void, devoid of life. It was then that Goddess Kushmanda used her radiant smile to create the universe. She brought into being the Trimurti: Lord Brahma for creation, Lord Vishnu for sustenance, and Lord Shiva for destruction. Lord Shiva, desiring perfection, approached Maa Kushmanda for her divine assistance.
Maa Kushmanda then created another goddess, Maa Siddhidatri, who bestowed upon Lord Shiva 18 forms of perfection, including the Ashta Siddhi (8 primary forms of perfection) and 10 secondary forms, as Lord Krishna described. Maa Siddhidatri became renowned as the giver of perfection.
Subsequently, Lord Brahma faced the challenge of creating the rest of the Universe, as it required both a man and a woman. He turned to Maa Siddhidatri for help. Responding to his plea, Maa Siddhidatri transformed half of Lord Shiva’s body into that of a woman, making Lord Shiva Ardhanarishwar, signifying the blend of masculine and feminine energies.
With the help of Maa Siddhidatri, Lord Brahma successfully created living beings and completed the universe. Thus, Maa Siddhidatri played a pivotal role in both the universe’s creation and bestowing perfection upon Lord Shiva.
